There is a biological basis. Medically, the term is “night preference.” A Japanese study showed that a polymorphism of the CLOCK gene is strongly associated with being a night owl. Later studies established relationships with ADHD prevalence as well. Not all night owls have ADHD, but if you have ADHD, you’re likely a night owl.
